For my husband’s 30th birthday party I planned a surprise party at our house. Cheers & Beers to 30 Years was the theme with black and gold colors throughout.

Party Invite

In order to keep the party a secret I created a private Facebook event with all the guests and made sure it was hidden from my husband. 😉 I created this invitation and used it as a digital Facebook Event Cover since I wasn’t going to be sending out physical invitations. You can purchase the invitation on Esty HERE.

In the Facebook invite I was sure to mention this was a surprise party that needed to be kept secret. I also provided a location for parking with a map so that the birthday boy didn’t see any of the guest vehicles. I worked with a friend to take my husband away from the house while friends and family came over to help with the decorations. I had guests show up 30 minutes before at 1pm and made sure to require that anyone who was going to be late wait until after the birthday boy had arrived at 1:45pm. You can see a copy of the Facebook Event invite below:

Cake

I made the cake in batches, the main layers of cake I made one day when my husband was out with friends. I froze the cake for a day and then put it together and decorated the morning of the party. I layered and covered the cake with vanilla buttercream then added chocolate ganache on top and dripped down the sides. I topped the cake with a couple mini liquor bottles, various chocolates, and gold sprinkles.

Here are the Amazon links to the cake topper and candles I used:

I used this doctored white cake recipe (https://sugargeekshow.com/recipe/wasc-cake-recipe/) from Sugar Geek Show. It was absolutely delicious and is now my go-to white cake recipe! So easy to transform the boxed cake mix into a delicious cake that tastes like it was made from scratch.

Food/Snacks

For food we had things that could be kept secret like pulled pork brought by a friend, various chips, and veggie/fruit trays. I ordered in advance and picked them up from the Kroger Deli, but I’ve used Sam’s Club Deli for other parties as well. You could use another grocery store chain, pick up other pre-made trays, or make your own in secret. I also picked up some beer and sodas from the store and hid them around the house so my husband wasn’t suspicious about extra drinks and food.

Decorations

I decorated mainly with balloons purchased on Amazon and Party City. If you don’t want to purchase a helium tank and inflate balloons yourself, Party City provides an option to inflate the balloons for you and schedule pickup.
